Until recently seen as entertainment for young nerds of the millenial generation, the role-playing games (RPGs) now seem to be the best, if not the only, solution capable of contemplating all the challenges of post-COVID management with all its urgencies and complexities.
In this article we will try to explaining how and why in each dimension of these challenges:
1. Operational challenges
Problem: Never before in history have all the companies in the world been simultaneously challenged by the need to adapt suddenly to such radical and systemic changes. The adaptations imply that companies change procedures from the micro, with more conscious processes on the microscopic plan of infectology, to macro, with the remodeling of strategies for the new economic scenarios on many sectors such as tourism, education, health, transport, who have suffered and still suffer from a brutal operational shock.
Solution: the corporate RPG brings in its DNA the agile methodologies and principles that have been validated for decades within the most changeable industries in the world, which is the methodologies in the software industry such as SCRUM.
2. Tactical challenges
Problem: totally converting a face-to-face operation to a remote one implies a tremendous adaptation in its channels of communication and in the language that an organization uses to perform its work.
Solution: the corporate RPG brings numbered boards as a solution to directly connect these variables, simplifying your communication and alignment processes between remote teams.
3. Strategic challenges
Problem: Interpreting data and predicting scenarios based on a torrent of information that overwhelms any organization’s ability to read and analyze.
Solution: fractal view of the organizational structure and processes, allowing an accelerated processing of new data through an analysis prism optimized by layers, accelerating projections of its effects.
4. Existential challenges
Problem: when all human lives are at risk at the same time, the purpose of human life, and of human organizations, is in question.
“Should I really be working at this company trying to sell a superfluous product (eg cars and other luxury items) while these may be my mother, grandmother, father, grandfather’s last days, or even my last days in this world?”
Solution: placing purpose at the center of the game, and in the top of an organization’s hierarchy, corporate RPGs help to keep an organization and each employee aware of their purpose in that organization.
A special feature of RPG games is the use of realistic characters with a human soul and strengths and weaknesses that evolve throughout the adventure of the game.
With the use of an avatar that abstracts the individual characteristics of a collaborator and live a personal journey of evolution in the game, the corporate RPGs combine every small ordinary action in organizational work with the reward of individual and collective human development, and this with building a better world and a better human being.
“Working motivated as a seller for this luxury brand in the face of a global crisis, I know that I am working to transform the best organizational sustainability practices and respect for nature into a reference to the industry and that makes me feel useful and important for the planet in this moment of crisis while working on my personal weaknesses, what improves my relationship with my family. “
